It's comfortable and clean, and their Italian restaurant next door serves an excellent breakfast (including cooked-to-order omelettes or fired eggs). It's very centrally located, in a narrow, slightly suspicious-looking alley off one of the main shopping streets in the centre of Vienna, and it's a 3 minute walk from Stephansdom (if you walk slowly). And the famous/infamous Cafe Hawelka is just on the other side of the alley.

The only thing that would make it better is another pillow on bed - the pillows were quite flat.

The room was basic but extremely clean and well serviced. One room was smaller than expected.
The breakfast offered a variation on a cooked breakfast and a continental breakfast. Individual dishes were catered for if asked. The service was exceptional and efficient delivered by very friendly and accommodating staff.
The small lobby / foyer which offered only a limited communal space. Customers used this to wait for taxis etc in the main. A larger social space would be an advantage. However it was perfect for an afternoon tea and for interacting with small numbers of other guests.

Since 1927 the Graben Hotel is in the center of Vienna on a tranquil side street off Graben in the middle of the Old Quarter. The historic hotel comprised of fifty-six rooms have art nouveau, traditional and modern furniture in a welcoming atmosphere. The hotel staff is fabulous and are extremely accommodating to the tourist's needs. The main lobby and room service employees were wonderful as well as the restaurant staff. The hotel is a short walking distance from major sights. Many pedestrian walkways are available for the tourist to enjoy several Christmas markets, St. Stephan's Cathedral, House of Julius Meinl store, Konditerai Aida, churches, museums, concert halls, palaces, shops, traditional carriage rides, as well as to public transportation. The hotel’s next door Trattoria Santo Stefano provides delicious meals as well as breakfasts.
((I contracted bronchitis and during my last four days in Vienna, the staff was wonderful in providing me with breakfast and dinner room service and moreover, arranging a doctor to come to my room to discuss my medical condition and prescribe my medications.)) THIS IS A FABULOUS HOTEL WHO LOVES HISTORY AND ARCHITECTURE! :)

The location is unbeatable. Right in the heart of Vienna, but facing relatively small and quiet street. (However, given the excellent public transport in Vienna, you don’t necessarily have to stay in the very center… we heard some noise from the street and surrounding restaurants despite the double glass windows…) The staff was welcoming, an earlier check in was possible. The breakfast was good, with a variety of high quality cheeses, cold cuts, juices etc.
There is an espresso machine in the room, you are able to make your own tea and coffee
Very poor value for money. We’ve come for a long weekend, and were prepared to pay 464 (!) euro per night for a nice and cosy 4 star hotel… what a disappointment! The hotel is very old and requires urgent renovations. Old peeling furniture, old stained peeling walls, extremely non comfortable bed with hard mattresses and a single shallow pillow for each person. Crooked ceiling. The TV is very small, and the only two English speaking channels are French euro news and Al Jazeera… no CNN, BBC or any other major networks…the room does not even have a carpet…
The bathroom is basic, with old pipes making terrible noise when you open the tap, waking up your roommate at night… old and old fashioned bathtub curtain and mold stains on the walls…The hair dryer is old and not efficient (bring yours!). Evidently the hotel doesn’t have it’s own wifi, so you have to use a public one (“Freewave”), which is not secure and doesn’t work half of the time. I couldn’t even use my cell phone internet connection, since cellular reception in the room was poor… so don’t plan on using internet…
The breakfast is till 10 am. First morning we showed up at 9:45… at 10:00 sharp they took away all the food… even though there still were a few people finishing up their breakfast…Almost no hot dishes for breakfast (only one kind of sausages and one kind of omelette). Only regular coffee. No espresso, cappuccino etc.

Excellent location; just off Graben; you can walk everywhere! Jusr a nxt paralel street is a stall with excellent bratwurst (sausages). Opposite is Hawelka cafe with many varieties of coffee; such as coffee with rum or schnaps; all tasty. Try their buchtlen, but served after 8 pm only. However, all cakes are amazing. Palatschinkenkucl nearby. Try to play a draw for Vienna New Year concert; you may be lucky; what an event! Also, visit N.Year trail on 31.12 and go to Stephanplatz (1 minute walk) on 1st January to watch a concert on a big screen; especially after 1 pm to hear Blue Danube and clap to Radetzky March; amazing atmosphere! Vienna is the best
place to celebrate N. Year!

Also has an Italian restaurant which we'd also recommend and across the road from a popular Austrian restaurant. Decent selection at buffet breakfast. Down small side street off main Graben Street. Rooms well soundproofed so slept well. Beds very comfortable and great shower! A few steps from Stephensplatz metro station. Definitely recommend and will return.

Very lovely room with nice furnitures although it's smaller than I expect. Really good location, in the heart of Vienna, can walk to the main tourist places and also near by the Vienna Opera House. The bed was comfort.
Breakfast is decelious with friendly staffs.
The heating isn't work really well. Till I staying there, Vienna is snowing and the heating isn't make the room warmer, it's really cold inside the room although you turn on the heating. There's no hot options for a/c, only cold one.
Room was small, not much room to put my luggages. Bathroom was also very narrow.

- location in the center of the city, close to all the amenities and Vienna sights
- restaurant on the first floor (but not so good)
- we were allowed to check in early than the official time
I have stayed in Graben hotel in the second time. From the last staying I'm not experiencing the same good feelings as in the first time. The room I have booked was small, it was cold as well. The breakfast was pure: there was no a big choice of dishes, especially hot ones. The price for all of these conditions for one night is quite too expensive. Unfortunately, It doesn't look like a 4-stars hotel for me

Beds are hard, but that is kind of normal in Germany and Austria. Only 2 pillows. We missed extra pillows as we are used to using two at home. The pillows provided were wonderfully comfy, just needed a second one. Key system?

They were working in the building next door I think, so weekdays I was waking up early because of the drills and in the weekend the cleaning lady started vacuuming the hall at around 9 'o clock which was also not nice. So there was no morning where i could snooze properly.

The toilet was separate from the main bathroom. There was a bathtub with no separate shower area. The mattress wasn't very comfortable.

It has no ironing appliance and the space between the toilet and bed is too tight that is making it less comfortable to move around.

The location could not be better--close to the restaurants, cafe, tourist spots. I did not take any public transportation during my stay. I walked to everywhere except to the airport. The staff at the reception were always helpful and friendly. I asked twice to print tickets, and they quickly responded. The single room had enough space for one person. The bath room was big enough. The building, reception area, and room were a bit old fashion, but I found it charming and liked it. That was exactly what I wanted for my stay in Vienna.
Some noise from the timer or thermosmeter of the air conditioner???--I could not figure out what it is. It was a little bit bothering when I could not sleep. However, I take it indication how quite the hotel is despite of the central location.

Fabulous location close to major attractions.

Room was very hot and our windows opened out onto the street so it was noisy. Air conditioning was not working. Hotel team explained the weather was unseasonably hot and they hadn't turned on the air conditioning yet.

The location was the best. Just near the Stephansdom. Although the room was small (16m^2), the bed was large (a double bed for a single room) and very comfortable. The staff was all friendly. Considering the size of the room, it was soundproofed sufficiently. Housekeeping was efficient; they never put off their work till afternoon.
As with other hotels in an old city downtown, parking was difficult. The designated public parking lot is a bit away (750m). The hotel itself is also difficult to reach by a car. I went around the downtown five times to locate the hotel, but in vain. Even if you have navigation, whether built-in or mobile, it is difficult to follow its instructions while driving unless you are once familiarized to the roads on foot. Driving between the hotel and a parking lot is also a nightmare. Another problem is that they don't have a working desk. There was a small round table, on which a laptop can hardly be placed. Therefore, if you have a car or if the purpose of your travel is work, you may have to rethink about it. Otherwise everything else is above the standards.

Location, location, location!
When I checked out I was asked if I had used the minibar, no was my answer. However a beer and white wine was on my tab!! I was alone in my room and out that evening in question and the problem was not resolved and they had required a 30€ deposit when I checked in that was on my credit card. Still do not know if the drinks will be deducted.!!!

Can’t get any better location than right on Stephensplatz
The window shades were blinds not curtains but that’s probably because the room was an attic with an angled window. This let a lot of morning light in.
