The best part was the location — it’s close to everything. There are plenty of spaces to hang out, eat, work, or socialize. For those who want to meet people, there are lots of activities going on. That wasn’t my case, but it’s also a great place if you just want or need some time alone. Plus, I definitely recommend the breakfast.

The location of the hostel is great, right next to a grocery store and train station. There are good restaurants you can walk to and it is easy to get to the old town if you want to spend time there. The curtains and fan in the hostel beds were great.
The kitchen fridge is quite chaotic and I had 3 things stolen, even when I clearly labeled them with the provided stickers. Also, the bathroom is on the hostel room, which is both good and bad. Sometimes if someone is using it you have to go all the way downstairs, which can be a pain.

Check-in was smooth, the room was clean, roomy and modern. The lockers were stand-up ones and had a hanging rod equipped with hangers. The bed had curtains and a small locker on the inside. The kitchen was roomy. The room I was in was on the courtyard and therefore quieter than the street the hostel was on. The front desk staff was helpful.
The Booking.com directions to find the hostel were not detailed enough, making it hard to find. The Kitchen layout led to the cooktops being abused by the users, they were in rough shape. Staff cleared out the fridge on another day than the one that was signed on the door. The seating area outside the kitchen had an uncomfortable arrangement of tables and seating. While i was there, the elevators were not operating properly.

The staff is very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The front desk, coffee bar, and especially the bartenders are all exceptionally kind, hardworking and welcoming. The entire building was clean, easy to navigate, and featured a modern design, including lockers with electronic locks that you can open and lock with your room card.
The rooms are not well ventilated, so you may notice odors such as humidity, mold, or unpleasant smells. The windows can be opened, but only slightly. The shower is narrow, fragile, and drains water very slowly—I'm not sure if it's clogged. The hostel doesn't offer enough activities for guests and isn't a good place to connect with people.

Everything was good. Punctuality in letting you in. It was by the clock and I liked it. The bedspreads were kept for you to use the pillow covers all neatly washed pressed and kept ready for use. This was a great hostel experience! I appreciated the private bathroom/shower in the room, privacy curtains, locker (with digital lock-no need to bring your own), and a shelf/mirror/outlets/fan in your bed area. Bed was pretty comfy too! Other nice touches were the elevator, 24/7 staff, coffee shop & bar area. There were plenty of places for me to work & reliable WiFi too.
There were a lot of people there and it did get a bit rowdy at night in the bar area & in the hallways. It also was about a 20 minute walk to the city center-not bad, but still a little ways out.

The staff was helpful when I needed directions, feminine hygiene products late at night when stores were closed, and when my room card got de-magnetized. Room was clean & adequate. Laundry facilities in basement which is a huge plus!
It does get crowded in the common areas at mealtimes but I only experienced this once or twice because I wake up very early :)

Bedsheets were clean. The location is good, but I’m not sure about the distance to the airport — I used the train station instead. Being close to a pharmacy and a supermarket could be considered an advantage as well. The hostel has a vibe that makes you feel like a local.
The bathroom was never clean, which was really disappointing. The beds and the overall cleanliness of the building were actually very good, though. The storage space wasn’t enough for me; I couldn’t fit my suitcase into the locker.

The check in was smooth, Rose/Rosa at the reception was helpful and polite. Everyone there was super kind and helpful including at the coffee shop or bar throughout my day’s stay. The bed linens were provided separately and they were crisp clean. I had the locker and a small locker with the bed, both very convenient. The girls in my room were so kind and respectful. They didn’t make any noise, they were considerate about the time spent in the washroom and kept everything clean. The washroom and toilet were super clean too. There was breakfast and a guest kitchen if one would like to pay and eat or cook something themselves. I just got myself hot water from there. Overall, it took my fear away of staying at hostels in my 30’s as it’s been a decade and I thought I was spoilt by options. If this is how hostels are now, I’ll be open for more experiences without hesitation.

Great location, the Naschmarkt was right in front of the hotel and quite cool. A short walk to the city center.
Overpriced and poor amenities. I understand that the holidays are an expensive time to visit, but just because you can charge $250 a night for a room doesn’t mean you should if the amenities don’t match the price tag.
The bed was literally a prison cot… some metal pipes and a 3” thick “mattress”. Any motion made noises, do the point where my breathing was causing a creaking sound. It was a noisy uncomfortable sleep.
There were no shower soaps or shampoos or really any thing else in the room, which again, is fine in a cheap room, but not when it costs $250!
On top of that, I’ve never stayed at a hostel or hotel that CHARGES EXTRA for luggage storage?!? Given the amount of money paid, adding extra fees for normally provided amenities was insulting.
Finally, they had an extra fee for late checkout, which is reasonable. But they doubled it because we had 2 people in the room. Again, this policy makes sense for a hostel dorm, but not for a private room! It’s not possible for only one person to request the extra checkout.
Ultimately, for the price we paid, we could’ve stayed elsewhere and I wish we had. Maybe this is a more reasonable experience had the price been reflective of the service offered.

I had a wonderful stay at Wombat’s City Hostel Vienna. The hostel is extremely spacious, from the dorm rooms to the common areas, which made it feel comfortable and not overcrowded at all.
Everything was very clean, modern, and well-maintained, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed yet social.
I really appreciated the laundry facilities, the welcoming café/bar area, and how easy it was to meet people or simply unwind when I needed rest. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hostel felt thoughtfully designed for travelers.
Overall, Wombat’s Vienna was an excellent stay, and I would absolutely return.
My room had a shared bathroom inside the dorm, which I personally chose. While it was always very clean, I realized that next time I would probably choose a different setup, simply because shared dorm bathrooms can occasionally mean waiting when others take longer but that’s more about personal preference than the hostel itself.

We were really pleased. I traveled with my 27 yo daughter and the hostel was a compromise so could find young people for her to go out with. The facility was great; stylish, clean, very helpful staff, coffee bar, local travel info and free maps, even free laundry soap and a lending library as. The regular bar was hoppin' as well and we played pool and did karaoke. The facility met all of our needs.
It was the most expensive place we stayed but I guess that was to be expected in the center of Vienna.

I like the room, the location was perfect. it has subway access and also supermarkets really close. In addition, it was ok for walking to central part of city. The hostel atmosphere was really friendly.

Stayed in a private room in the hostel. Great staff, very helpful for all my questions. Well located on the outer part of the historic area of Vienna. Easy 20 minute walk or shorter train ride into main areas. Right by Naschmarkt. Felt safe. The lobby is always open to get work done.

The hostel's location appeals to us. It was next to a supermarket and within walking distance of all the city center's major attractions! On my next trip to Vienna, I would absolutely reserve the same lodging.
There is still room for improvement in the hostel's cleanliness. There was a water bottle and some trash from the previous guest's upper bunk bed when we arrived in our private room (which could accommodate six people.)

The curtains in the bed for privacy. The bar/common area. The well-connected location. The events organized by the hostel. The very good breakfast for little money.
The bathroom situation.. all the bathrooms are inside the rooms. You can hear everything people are doing inside, that means if you want to wake up very early to take a shower, you might disturb the entire room. Shower and toilet are together, so if you just want to brush your teeth or dry your hair, you are making other people wait for shower or toilet. That's probably why the bathroom at the bar was always busy.
Also, you have to make your own bed. So imagine arriving at night and having to put a duvet cover and sheets in your upper bunk bed. Nightmare

I always prefer Wombat’s if it’s available. Clean and large spaces, well equipped kitchen and a social bar area. And an outdoor space with ample seating. The dorms are in huge rooms with large and small lockers. Even 6-room dorms feel spacious. Laundry room available for longer stays.
The staff working here are amazing. From the reception to the barista to the bartender everyone is super fun and friendly.
Nothing that I didn’t like.

The hostel was overall nice, and I really liked the facilities provided. The attached bathroom was convenient, and I appreciated the privacy curtain, personal bed light, locker, and fan — all of these made the stay comfortable.
I had an issue with the bed arrangement. After I took a bed and set it up, I went out for a while. When I returned, someone else had placed their belongings on it, which was quite confusing. There didn’t seem to be a clear system to indicate which beds were already taken or assigned.
It would really help if the hostel staff implemented a better system to mark occupied and available beds, or clearly inform guests upon check-in. Because of this confusion, I had to go back and forth multiple times and ended up making my bed again, which was frustrating.

It was helpful that there were grocery stores close by, but closed on Sundays. It was quite a bit of a long walk to downtown but walk-able there. The curtains helped with privacy, or have your lights on if you're a late sleeper. There was assigned lockers to fit a carry-on suitcase, and a small locker at each bed, which you create a PIN code to put your little valuables. I learned belatedly the hostel had free jars of rice and pasta for cooking, and sometimes past hostel guests left extra food, tea, etc. for others to have. It was communal and you can make new friends in the kitchen or dining room. You can ask 24hr front desk for places to visit or any questions.
My vacation was ruined because they charged for keeping your luggage before and after check-in, so I lost 2 days of exploration. It was confusing to find the hostel from the metro. Kitchen closed at midnight. Music was too loud in dining room. I have a brain injury, it was not pleasant. Kitchen was on the 2nd floor from flights of stairs & through clubbing area. Couldn't turn on lights on for dining room. Kitchen crowded by people cooking simultaneously. Sink full of dirty dishes. People reported their food stolen in communal fridges. They charged for bed sheets and towels. The washroom was always occupied by dorm mates. Someone had their toiletries in the washroom stolen. Elevator was malfunctioning at times, so it was frustrating or scary on my last day of my stay.
There was graffiti in the neighbourhood, which made it feel a little unsafe. Vienna's official language was German, so you can't grocery shop if you can't read or speak German. People don't speak English, so best to figure out how to find your way besides asking people.

Wombat is a good hostel. Clean and silent. One of the best, where I stayed along ~15 years of traveling experience.

Taking into account the location, it has let’s call it ‘ok’ price for Vienna, BUT in general ~$50/night it IS really expensive for a ‘upper floor’ of the bunk bed in shared room in hostel.

Rooms do not have many hooks or spaces to hang damp towels, shirts, etc. Additionally the top bunks are somewhat awkward to climb in and out of (grips and spacing a bit odd). The breakfast is ok. A bit expensive for what it is. It is mostly bread and veggies. If you get there early, there is some fruit or oatmeal, but not many non-dairy or other protein options.

I loved the coffee bar and initial sitting area. It was clean and the bar was wonderfuly social with weekly events. The bartenders are the absolute sweetest!
I didn't like having to go through the bar to access the lobby bathroom, guest kitchen and breakfast area. The guest kitchen was also small and congested. Towels were also not in the room or immediately provided by front desk.

It was very clean and I liked the fact that the staff was very friendly and helpful across the board. I had the chance to celebrate my birthday in the hostel having the staff providing materials to facilitate my party.
The toilet being singled out for the entire room with students only able to have one to share and take turn to use it.
I did not like the fact for the breakfast they had only hams not chicken or eggs.
