Monastère des Augustines - Quebec City

Le Monastère des Augustines, a health and wellness center, is a former monastery from the 17th century that has been completely restored. Two room types are available; the “Authentic” rooms, restored in a monastic spirit, are former Augustinian cells with shared bathrooms. The “Contemporary” rooms are modernly furnished while respecting the heritage character of the place.

These rooms have a private bathroom. To promote relaxation and tranquility, there are no televisions or telephones in the rooms. Guests will find one on the upper floor in the living area, where computers are also available.

Free WiFi is available. Guests can also take a self-guided tour of the museum or join a guided tour for an additional fee. Le Vivoir offers healthy, local, and organic food such as vegetarian, fish, poultry, and meat dishes.

Breakfast is taken in silence, a morning ritual in harmony with the site’s historic vocation. A boutique and a take-out counter are also available. Guests will enjoy the wide range of overall health care and the daily program of activities.

Very good location, an oasis right next to all the hustle and bustle of old Quebec. Hotel itself is a piece of art, with so many things and locations to explore including a museum and a lot of relaxation spots. Breakfast was amazing, with many vegan and vegetarian options. Very high quality delicious produce. Rooms and corridors were super clean

Room was a bit small for two. A couple of cloth hangers on the wall would have helped a lot. Water coolers were only available on lower floors, so we had to go downstairs to refill our bottles all the time. It would have been nice to have an electric kettle in the room

The hotel feels like a yoga retreat, quiet and peaceful. There are no TVs in the room but you can access WiFi. It felt great to disconnect. It’s in a great location, within walking distance of the Fairmont, boardwalk, Citadel and Petit Champlain. Old Quebec is charming and clean with many restaurants to chose from. My favorite part of the hotel was the breakfast. Delicious!

Excellent experience at the hotel. Quiet and relaxing. Everything, including the room, was immaculate. Wonderfully helpful and professional staff. Interesting museum in the complex. Highly recommend.

Driving to the complex in the city central location was exceptionally challenging. And I was surprised by the parking fee.

Only a short walk to the Upper Town, Monastère des Augustines was very conveniently located. The exterior of the building exuded a calmness that continued inside. Beautifully restored, the building offered a comfortable stay for our three nights in Quebec City. The contemporary room on the upper floor offered two single beds and our private bathroom. The room was not serviced during our stay, though we could put out our towels in the bag provided in exchange for fresh ones daily. Breakfast was included and was had in silence - everyone respected this and ate quietly. Additional meals and drink were available throughout the day to purchase. These were reasonably priced. We joined the English guided tour of the building (no charge if staying) which took us to, amonst other places, the Vault - it was interesting to hear and see more of the history of the place. We also looked at the Chapel and Church. This was a very different experience in terms of accommodation, but an absolutely beautiful one!

There's really nothing that we didn't like, but the room was tiny and lacked appropriated placed power points (usually, they are at the side of the bed, these were at the foot of the bed!)

Food was amazing. Unusual and moving concept. Learned alot about the Augustinian sisters' heritage and their contributions to quebec.

Nothing but visitors should know this is a unique experience and must know what they are getting into. We got the MODERN rooms. Don't get the authentic ones unless you want to use a common bathroom.

The grounds are beautiful and the restorations blends into the original aspects of the monastery. This is truly a work of art. The vaults, the history was impressive. We loved the videos from the Augustine Sisters themselves. The contemporary rooms are very comfortable, clean and modern although I would have preferred an authentic room had one been available at our time of booking. It is quite expensive. If you chose to stay for the "healing" journey, you might get your money's worth, if you're staying for the accommodations only, it is quite pricey.

We had been looking forward to having a dinner at the Monastery and chose a day where duck and fish were served as I'm pescatarian and hubby is fussy. Long story short, we were served a few shrimps with peppers and onions, and chicken/bread balls with Indian spices. Unfortunately, we were told fish was still available when we stared eating from the salad bar, it was not. We paid over $100.00 for a salad bar and 4 shrimps each. (Hubby had 3 actually) Had we been told that the duck and fish were now shrimp and chicken/bread balls, we would have politely cancelled adn eaten somewhere else. We were told by management that 15% discount was enough and to suck it up basically which was both surprising and disappointing.

Quiet oasis at the edge of Old Quebec City, with interesting >300-year history as a monastery. Probably one of the few hotels in Vieux Quebec with a car park (enter from the back, at the Rue des Ramparts). With great, healthy buffet breakfast.

Not much space left in the 'modern convenience' rooms due to the large king-size bed. A queen-size bed and a small table and chair(s) might have been a more efficient use of the space.

Just about everything. I liked the cleanliness of the room and I enjoyed the quiet breakfast. The museum was fastinating and getting the tour was great.

I hit my head on the door frame because the door entrances to the rooms in the old section are 5'-5'3" height. I had to duck each time entering or leaving the room. I got familar after the first day to duck.

The breakfast was fabulous. I really appreciated the choices for vegan and gluten-free eaters like my nephew, with whom I travelled. Organic and fresh fruit was wonderful. Room and room location were wonderful. Loved the room and the beds were very comfortable.

It would be helpful to have a suitcase stand for the second person sharing the room. I was also a bit confused regarding housekeeping service - ie not sure what the extent of housekeeping was to occur on a daily basis. Our garbage was emptied every two days and we did receive additional towels.

It is a unique experience. The free tour of the monastery is very informative, given by Anne, a retired teacher. A Catholic mass is held every day on site. The food was excellent. We had dinner there one night and enjoyed it so much that we returned the next night. We really liked the silent breakfast. The location is perfect.

We reserved a contemporary room with a king bed. It filled up the room. We should have reserved a room with a queen bed.

Being a former nunnery, the hotel carries forward the quiet atmosphere to the modern day. It was quite an experience having a quiet breakfast and dinner. The rooms were very clean and well kept. Even the shared bathrooms were spotless. I really enjoyed the breakfast meals each morning, there was a bit more to it than just the usual motel buffet.

If having to climb a flight of stairs to get to the check in counter is an issue, try not to arrive after the front doors are closed, not sure what time that is . The rest of the time you can go around the stairs to the right and use the elevator up, which is fine.

We stayed in the rooms with shared bathrooms. It was such a pleasant experience. The rooms and bathrooms were so clean. The rooms were quiet and well appointed. It was delightful to stay in a museum and experience how the sisters of the monastary lived. The beds were exceptionally comfortable- I ordered the same pillows and sheets for my guest room at home when I got back. Silent breakfast was realxing and the food delicious, fresh and healthy. It was a nice way to start the day. The hotel was ideally located in the heart of Quebec City. It is pristine, has beautiful views and 100% walkable to every attraction the city offers.
