The location was fantastic and was easily accessible by public transport from the airport (metro then 1 stop on train). The reception staff were lovely and very helpful. The room was a decent size and had a good wardrobe and desk.
It was a little noisy but that may be the price for staying in the heart of Madrid. The shower was very cramped but clean. I also do not like a single long pillow for two people.

Very bad experience. The front desk person Max charged us 150 euros straight away and accused as of damaging the window blinds. This is without further investigation and in connivance with the housekeeping. If this is how they treat their guests then they can just plainly accuse everyone and get money by using Booking.com to charge the guests. We’ve lost a few hours of roaming around Plaza Mayor because of this incident.

The location was perfect, right next to Plaza Major, a couple of minutes from Sol metro station, lots of restaurants nearby, Mercado de San Miguel for great food, cafes for breakfast and also within walking distance of the art galleries and the Royal Palace. The area also felt safe.
The Hostal itself is basic but that is reflected in the price. I thought the price was very good for the location it is in. The room was very clean. It was a small room but perfectly adequate for a short stay. The Hostal is a bit dated, but on the other hand it's nice to stay somewhere that isn't an identikit budget hotel that is the same the world over. This place felt Spanish.
Hector on reception was very friendly and helpful and gave a great recommendation for a local restaurant.
Some reviews have complained about having to give the room card in when you leave. This isn't a problem at all and I have no idea why people have complained about it. The reception is staffed all the time, you give your key card in, you leave, you come back, you get the key back and you don't have to worry about losing it when out and about. Similarly, some people complained about the door being locked at 10pm. This wasn't a problem either. You ring the bell and are let in straightaway.
There was enough hot water in the shower but the water pressure wasn't great.
A larger bath towel would be nice and I think that newer, more up to date bedding might make a better impression when guests first see their room.

I had a pleasant stay at the hostel, even though i wouldnt call it a hostel in the modern sense, more like a low rated hotel. I had a single bed room, which was cleaned everyday, was provided towels that were changed for me during my stay and toiletries. I am not a fan of the spanish bedding style, but it was clean(not musty as ive had in spain). The staff was very nice and helpful. At checkout, which i had to do in the middle of the night, they ordered a taxi for me which picked me up from the reception. The location is excellent, very much in the center. Inside it was very calm and quiet, no loud noises.
I visited during lower temperatures (day high was about 12°C) and since it was the end of march, the room was a bit cold, even though i had a radiator with central heating, I would imagine the hostel is better suited for warm weather travels, as there was AC in the room. The bed was too soft for my taste, and the water pressure wasnt great (and it took a while for the water to get hot, but i assure you it did). The amenities arent great - no kitchenette or any equipment in the room, but it is clearly listed here on the page, so dont go expecting something that wasnt listed.

Doormans always presents and readys. Cleaning ok, every day, the fact remains that it is still an appreciable historical area. It was an excellent purchase considering the competition and all the services they offer, extremely recommended in my opinion.

They answered all my questions and gave me recommendations on where to eat and what to do. Very clean. I will go back to this place again on my next visit to Madrid!
The single room they gave me was too small and quite dark. No power outlets next to the bed. For one night stay it was okay. I stayed only one night so it wasn't a big deal for me. I hope in my next stay I will get a better room.

BEDBUGS with no refund!!!! After checking in and going to dinner, we found bedbugs all over the wall of one rooms. We had to take pictures and repeatedly tell staff before they believed us. It was in a 16-year olds room. They moved him (after first refusing so he didn’t take the bedbugs there!) but left two adults in the adjoining room that shared an infested wall. They finally moved us the 2nd day but refused to offer any compensation.

First of all is the fabulous location of the hotel. The building is very old with narrow stairs and narrow hallways and rooms are a bit small, but they have ACs and comfortable beds. I wished they had a kettle to make a coffee or tea, but the basic facilities are there. Not whole building and not all floors are for the hotel, it is just one part of the building, where regular tenants live. However, the great location compensates for all.
A water boiler in the room would be helpful or at least one corner near the reception desk to have a water boiler, such that guests can make a coffee or tea.

Rooms just provide the basics. Beds are pretty uncomfortable and the pillows seem to be filled with rocks instead of fluffy filling. Tiny bathroom with just ok lighting. Everything in general is very old.

The whole experience was beyond expectation. The location cannot be beaten, you are in the center of the city, can walk to Prado, Royal Castle and everywhere in 20 minutes.
The staff was very polite, we saw at least 3 different recepcionist, they were all nice and professional. They offered us on our checkout day to leave the baggage there if we need it.
The room was small, but very clean - we were there in November, the heating was on, no problem. Wifi was stable, bathroom is clean with a hairdryer.
Yes, you have to leave your keycard at the reception when you leave, but they have a 24/7 reception, and greeted us with a smile, no matter if it was 4pm or 2am.

The room was cold at times. The rooms and hotel are a little dated but that didn't bother me at all. The bathroom is small and the toilet is a little hard to use because there is very little legroom.
