Being close to the town centre it did get a bit noisy in the mornings when everyone was waking up and kids were going to school! But that's only a minor issue compared to all the other benefits.
Also parking is available at €16 overnight (after 20% discount from hotel) but like most carparks in France, it is tight for large cars! But convenience of having a carpark so close and in that location outweighs the negative!

Very dated interiors, needs to be entirely redecorated (flaky paint, broken skirting, scuffed walls, peeling wallpaper). Rooms were not very clean (dusty, stray hairs in the bathroom).
Had to change room after check-in as there was an awful smell of drains in the bedroom. No questions asked *at all* by check-in staff when I said there was a "smell" which leads me to believe it was a known issue. During the night there was a cabbagey smell through the aircon which meant we just slept with the aircon off and the window open.
No restaurant or bar was open. No outside area at all - photos are a bit misleading on booking.com as it looks like there's a roof terrace, but this isn't a public terrace and is only available if you are staying in their largest suite.
The location is great, but next time I'm in Avignon I will choose nicer accommodation a bit further from the centre. Could be a great hotel if it was redecorated.

Fabulous warm welcome by Yoann upon arrival, great communication from the team on email prior to arrival as well. I enquired about parking and they sent clear instructions on where to go, also clear instructions once you enter the car park about which level to park on depending on which Mercure you’re staying in. Short walk from the parking to the hotel. It couldn’t be more perfectly located.

We love the location of this property, which is in the main Square and just beside the Palais Des Papes. It is so convenient to reach from the train station and everything is close at hand. We received an upgrade to a room with a balcony overlooking the main square. What a generous upgrade to provide us with, and it left us with wonderful lasting memories.

The property was clean and well located.
On our first morning they indicated the hot water would be turned off at 10. My husband was soaped up at 9:30 when it was turned off! Kitchen staff not happy either!! Once it was turned on later in the day, we (and several other guests - as discussed at breakfast) had no water pressure and were unable to shower. The water that trickled out was either hot or cold - video provided and verified by staff. Evening staff provided no option to shower elsewhere or discount and no acknowledgement of issue. No management on site. We emailed the ownership and heard nothing back. When we were packed and checking out, they offered us a different room for a shower… knowing we had a train to catch.
The true character shows up when something goes wrong. I would not recommend.

Room was fairly ok with a good view, but I still do not get the cultural aspect for not having a place to wash hands and a bidet in the toilet. Breakfast had a good selection, but the do it yourself by cutting bread/salami/cheese and having a "touch free" approach is a big "NO" at least for me.
Room had a door to another room - problem was with the neighbours coming in the last day being noisy...and by saying this I would add that even a fart would have been heard at 4 am from our bed... This I found unacceptable for the 4* hotel. Also I found a bit annoying the room number question at the breakfast (though I must admit the gentleman's politeness to asking us for it far exceeded the hotel's policy on it, so cheers for him)
