For such a high rated hotel, of all the ones we stayed at, it was the only one that didn't have any beverage making facility in the room, it had no complementary bottled water, no complementary toiletries such as proper soap and shampoo (only cheap stuff out of a squeezy). The toilet was so close to the wall that it was awkward to sit on ( for a large person, it would have been impossible). It was the only place to charge us to safely store our hire bikes.

The shower was a nightmare to adjust but other than that the room was lovely. The main issue for us was the staff. Unhelpful and rude to sum it up. There was no information at all in the room so my husband went to reception to ask if we could order room service. There was no room service by phone but we could order drinks from the bar which they would bring up to us. Why we couldn’t just ring reception or the bar to order our drinks was baffling. So he ordered at the bar and they returned to our room 10 minutes later with a very warm lager and a gin and tonic with one ice cube. Very poor for a hotel of this quality. Also, on checking out, I asked the receptionist if she could order us a cab to the train station. She abruptly said there are no cabs on Monday’s and then carried on working. A lovely local lady overheard me and said although there are no cabs, there were nearby bus stops or we could walk it in 15 minutes. Something the receptionist could have said to me if she’d have been at all helpful. In short, this hotel could be fantastic if management gave it a simple shakeup and trained their staff properly.

Hotel charges 8€ per person/bike/night to 'park' the bike in private parking. Parking a Car is 15€/night. So we packed 2 bikes in the car and had a bargain. Parking a bike should be free today!

The rooms and decor were quite quirky. The restaurant was fantastic. Breakfast served till 11am was good timing for us.
Breakfast was ok but could have been better for a hotel with such a good restaurant. The bar was not really advertised, we had to ask where it was.

Great location and wonderful architecture. The central atrium is amazing. Secure parking well organised.
Room was quite expensive (superior double) for the quality of decor etc. Breakfast choice was somewhat limited but what was provided was very good. A major issue is that one coffee machine is not enough for a hotel of this size. Staff could have been friendlier.

wonderful centrally located old fashioned hotel with an interior lobby to die for. we had a really nice room with modern bathroom and large comfy bed. excellent restaurant with a good choice of dishes and good wine list at reasonable prices. hotel offers private lock-up parking quite close (50m) for an extra 15 euros. good breakfast for a very reasonable 12 euros.

Tastefully renovated The Grand Hotel still keeps its vintage charm. The modern touch adds elegance. We enjoyed the high ceilings in the room with the splendid view of the canal. A real haven of peace in this lively city!
Unfortunately the Restaurant was a disappointment! From 3 dishes we did not enjoy one. Completely overrated cuisine. And that in a place where you can have delicious meals at every corner. Spare the money!

Beautiful interior with its galleried atrium, all recently renovated and redecorated back.to its former glory. Very friendly staff. Very comfortable beds and high level of luxury.
Breakfast was limited. Instead of good freshly made coffee served to us, there was a coffee machine serving small cups so I needed two cappuccinos and an extra shot to get the coffee close to how I like it! People needed advice on how to use it causing a queue.

The main selling point is the fantastic atrium which was just magnificent to sit in, both in the evening and at breakfast. Rooms were more functional but large and comfortable and ours though on a side street did have a canal view.
Breakfast was good but could have had more choice for the price, and we also would have expected a kettle or coffee machine in the room.

Lots of paid for extras. Car park was difficult to locate. Dogs are allowed in rooms but not in restaurant. This is fine but would be great if it was really clear in the information section on booking.com or the hotel website

My only comment is that I arrived late at the hotel (unforeseen circumstances). The staff couldn’t share with me some recommendations to get something to eat. Just indicated I will find somewhere down the street. The hotel should make a bit more effort in helping their customers who are tired and hungry arriving late. It wouldn’t cost money to put some research into options for late arrivals.

I liked the beautiful atrium, my bedroom was so clean, comfortable and cool. Breakfast choice was plentiful and fresh.
It took me a while to work out how switch on the coffee machine in the bedroom. Perhaps a small instruction within the welcome folder would be useful for guests?

The view on the balcony was wonderful. You can see the harbour and the hilltop. Very clean and spacious standard room. The charm of the old-style lobby was something that really made the trip feel special. The bathroom was extremely spacious and clean. Bed was perfect. The AC cooling was amazing to have and easy to control. Not all hotels have them in my experience.
The mini fridge was not plugged in. I didn't need it but if someone were to expect a quick refreshment they could've been a little sad. Other than that no complaints.
