We really enjoyed our 7 day stay at the lovely Castelo Santa Catarina! We were in the room on top of the building from where we had a 360 degree view, could see the sun come up and go down and on clear days could see the ocean in the distance. Everything in the old part of the Castelo looks like a folklore museum or a hundreds of years old castle but at the same time with the comfort of a renovated bathroom and modern heating. Absolutely loved it. There’s no elevator inside the building (only to get from parking to reception) but we were offered that they carried our luggage to the 4th floor. There was an issue with our toilet but they immediately sent a technician. Generally, they are taking very good care of the building, daily housekeeping is excellent and all staff is very nice. Breakfast was good and plentiful. Even though the hotel was mostly booked out we found parking the 3 times we used the car. Definitely a unique place to stay! Recommended!

The Castle is lovely, the decoration is true to the period and extremely ornate. The breakfast was ample and eggs will be cooked to order if you wish. As breakfast is included this is one of the most reasonable and unique offerings in Porto. Maria, who manages the evening tapas and cocktails was delightful.
Numerous texts was a little tedious. As it was a Tuesday, not many people were in the hotel, so the restaurant not well attended unfortunately.

The castle design was impressing from the first minute. Rooms were clean. Bathroom large with softest towels. Breakfast area was beautiful with Portuguese touches and food was enough. Staff was helpful. It is 20 minutes walking to the bridge and 3-4€ by taxi.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The couple of restaurants recommended by staff that we went to were great. Thoughtful touches like leaving umbrellas outside the rooms on rainy days exemplified the overall attention to details and guest comfort. They also kindly accommodated an early check-in which was greatly appreciated after a red-eye flight. Our arrival was very easy by public transit from the airport and a quick 5-minute walk from the station closest to the hotel.
We were also happily surprised to receive a room upgrade. We stayed in the newer addition overlooking the gardens. The room was very spacious, clean, and comfortable. The delicious breakfast was enjoyed in the charming historic castelo building. We didn't have a chance to visit the bar and the weather was a bit too cool to enjoy sitting in the garden for an afternoon drink but both looked pleasant.
Some areas of the gardens were being renovated but the work was well scheduled to be minimally intrusive. I think it was reasonable given the off-season discounted rate we paid and it did not overly impact our enjoyment at the Castelo.

Very nice building with history. The decration was great and gave a feel of living in a small castle. The staffs were very accommodating and friendly. The location was not the best but not far from the main places and old town area. Overall a great experience staying here and definitely recommendable.

Location and the structure overall
The "family suite" was unadequate as regards to its position and internal furniture, if compared with charming double rooms within the hotel: we expected an unforgettable experience having looked at the pictures on the hotel website and we ended up with a dark (and hidden) room located at the ground floor, one bedroom without any windows, the other bedroom with a small window facing the garden. Besides, there was even no water for welcoming guests (just by paying), and this is not acceptable for this kind of charming hotels.

Living in a castle just 10-15 minutes walk from the city center is as magical as it can be! The property has an exceptional atmosphere, beautiful territory, amazing historical breakfast room and a couple of meeting rooms. Everything equipped with modern facilities, but lovingly restored and preserved historical elements. We stayed in a room on the top floor of the main building, and it has 360 view over the city. Rooms on the 3rd floor should also have a great view, but not 360, however, they have the balconies/terrace. Be prepared to climb the stairs for the best views, though. There is no lift in the main building.
Every member of staff we met was incredibly nice and helpful. We had a great time in Castelo Santa Catarina and wish all the best to the hotel and the team.
I can imagine that in winter the air coming through the historical windows might bother some people. The hotel does their best by quite strong heating and putting some insulating material to the gaps in windows, and we are used to this approach in the UK. If the potential draughts is a big problem for you, better to choose a room in the modern building/wing.

The grounds were wonderful and having the bar/restaurant onsite made for a convenient and delicious last night in Porto. The hotel has two types of rooms--beautifully traditional Portuguese splendor in the main building and comfortable modern rooms in the garden. The main building was absolutely stunning. An old tower with clearly a lot of history. The breakfast room was a joy to behold, the food good and the service ample.
The romantic suite was pleasant enough but very modern - not at all what I expected given the rest of the main building. This was only a minor hiccup though.

The hotel was not in the center of Porto which was good. Uber was easy and it was nice to be in a quieter neighborhood. We ate in the independent restaurant on the property one night which was good. Breakfast was extensive and good. One of our rooms was in the tower and it was old but clean and quiet. Pretty view of the city. The other room was in the newer hotel block.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful. As another guest described it, “an oasis” in the middle of the city. The breakfast was generous and delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful. The shower was exceptional, but the bed was not very comfortable at all.

Service staff seemed disinterested in helping us find our room given we were in the castle part of the hotel; finally they did help us find our room. The beds were very hard; hand rail on the staircase was loose; no markings at bottom of staircase with a glass door; we had no hot or warm water the second night and the continental breakfast was just OK. I would rate this hotel a 1 out of 5 for location only. Not worth the money.

Very Unique if you stay in the actual Castle part of the hotel . Be prepared for stairs . Lovely terrace and beautiful grounds .

The hotel is the most beautiful I've ever stayed in...the grounds were lovely and the architecture amazing. One of our party is "gluten free" and the staff was very accommodating. Our flight home required us to leave about 5 a.m. and without us asking, the staff had a "to go" bag packed and ready for us when we checked out...it included sandwiches, muffins, fruit and juice and was a lovely gesture. (of course, one was labeled "gluten free"). We were delighted.

Our room was top floor castle, lots of stairs but unbelievable balcony. Large room, huge private balcony. Old world chair, castle was great to stay in, there seemed to be enough parking space. It is a bit of a hike to the port and all uphill back, use uber or bolt. Staff was nice but somewhat reserved. Breakfast was in a beautiful room and decent, typical breakfast. This has proven to be the best value for a room on our trip so far.
It is undergoing renovation now but that did not bother us. They appear to be working on other building rooms

The included breakfast was fabulous and sustaining. The restaurant also have excellent food well presented.
The uppermost rooms in the tower must be reached by stairs. Not unusual for Europe but it was a challenge for some of us seniors!

A really lovely place to stay in Porto. The room was modern and very clean. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke English. The accommodation was behind a secure gate with a passcode which I liked. Everything was perfect. One policy they have is that you return you key before exiting the property which is unusual. Overall, an excellent stay so hopefully one day we will return.

The breakfast room at Castelo de Santa Catarina is one of the hotel’s most charming spaces, with a mix of beauty, atmosphere, and a few practical quirks. It is an absolute beautiful setting as “a visual treat” with lovely décor. A good selection of delicious food, including hot dishes, fresh fruit, and cakes.
The castle’s period furnishings and Baroque details extend into the breakfast experience, contributing to a unique, elegant feel.
An 8:00 a.m. breakfast took me by surprise. One day we had to really rush to make a schedule tour due to the late start. If I had done my homework, I would have realized this and planned the tour a little later in the day. Really my fault for not checking before making my travel Itinerary.

Perfect location, very near to downtown, it is a castle like environment (or may be it was a castle sometime back), very nice decor, room was very clean and big and a quiet place. The best part of our trip. The staff was really great, very responsive, and very detailed attention was given to the guests.
Not sure, what to say, it is not a big deal the curtains on the window had a small gap that let some light in. Not an issue, so didn't even bothered to report it.
