Good central location and clean hotel (a bit outdated, as you can expect for this value).
Bathroom ceiling started leaking at the first evening and wasn't fixed during the stay. Pillows could have been softer and not so 'bumpy'. There was some noise from the street, as expected in so central.

There were no advantages to the hotel, except for its central location
The hotel is quite old, poorly maintained, and clearly needs renovation. The staff were unfriendly, which is very unusual for Portugal. Breakfast was very poor — apart from bread, cheese, and two types of cold cuts, there was nothing to eat.
When checking out early, the staff refused to provide a lunch box, which is a common practice in most hotels. Of course, no refund was given for the missed breakfast.
The most serious issue, however, was a data privacy breach. About a month before arrival, I started receiving WhatsApp messages supposedly from the hotel, asking to pay in advance and provide credit card details. This is absolutely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about guest data security.

Beautiful old building in keeping with its historical heritage. The blue tiled wall mural in the entrance was magnificent.
Reception staff were all helpful and patient and professional.
The location offered all the sites of the Old City, a hop and a skip from the station, and being a keen walker, a good leg stretch down to the river. Churches, shopping and places to eat were all accessible.
Perhaps a little dingy in the foyer area upstairs.
While my trip was about exploring Porto for the first time, a bit of downtime in front of the TV was to be expected in the evening. However the signal was poor for two of the nights and the last night, it didn’t work at all.
The gentleman on reception did his very best, but no luck. I reported the issue the next day.

Short walk to points of interest
It is possible to leave your luggage after check-out but it does not feel safe. The luggage is just left between the lift and the stairs. The receptionist can’t even see to it directly, which made us very worried about the safety. See photo below.
The hotel is old and could benefit from some maintenance.
The breakfast has very low quality. We didn’t have more than half a coffee before we decided to get food elsewhere instead.

Everything. The rooms are small and the beds even smaller. The rooms smelled of damp and bad drains. No Wi-Fi, No TV channels and no air con because reception had the controls. Breakfast was also very average.

Excellent location, close to São Bento station, walking distance to some points of interest. The room was clean, and the bathroom was clean as well. Breakfast was simple, but it was delicious. The staff were polite and friendly (+1 to the staff serving breakfast, they were really friendly!).
Regarding wifi, this is more an observation than a complaint - wifi disconnected several times. It wasn't a problem for me, because I was there for leisure, and I had mobile data, so it didn't bother me.
The room was a bit cold (I was there during winter) but the staff turned the heater on, so this is more an observation than a complaint.

It’s disappointing when reviews aren’t honest, because this place is described as “eclectic” or “quirky,” which really isn’t accurate. It’s simply old—and not in a charming or stylish way. It feels like no real investment has been made in upkeep, and the property would benefit greatly from gradual upgrades, even if done one room at a time.
The bathroom in our twin room was especially poor. The shower is over a bath with a curtain, which is not only outdated but potentially unsafe, particularly for older guests or anyone with mobility issues. The plumbing and overall condition of the bathroom are very worn and far from appealing. (The “hairdryer” should also be replaced, it is really not functional).
The hallway carpets are tired and worn, and the room furniture is dark and not well maintained. There’s a clear difference between something being old and something being neglected, and unfortunately this leans toward the latter. No water provided. No kettle.

Perfect location.
Old-fashioned overall. I was given a large regular key with a tag attached with my room number. I misread the number first and entered a wrong room with the key. After I realised my mistake, I was able to open the correct room with the same key. Does it mean that all the locks in the hotel can be open with any room key?

The only good thing for this hotel is location.
The carpet is old, dirty and smelly. The lock on out room didn't work after we came back from our dinner. They don't have any maintenance people to fix the lock so since there is only one girl work at night and we need to get our medicine inside the room. The girl staff told us that we have to wait until morning so we told her that we need our medication so she call her friend to come by to have them break the lock. We waited for 1 and 1/2 hours for her friends to show up and waited another 2 hours at this time it was 11:30pm already and we have to leave early in the morning. They should have offer another room, an apology or something but no. I was totally disappointed with poor service and lack of acknowledgement in their part.
