The budget rooms weren’t proper in check regularly, the second floor on the left smelt of cigarettes. Lucky enough I was given a better room. However the floor looked very run down. And bathroom shelf was very loose and the curtains were broken

The young lady on reception was friendly and helpful. The sea view rom was clean and very spacious.The bed was comfortable, an excellent nights sleep. The bar area was bright and appealing. Breakfast was delicious. Plenty of choice and the dining room was beautifuly decorated.
If I'm going to be picky ... hot chocolate and some biscuits would have been a welcome treat alongside the tea and coffee

Paid for sea view and the view was gorgeous, unfortunately the room was cold due to an issue with the radiators but staff were extremely prompt in sorting us a temporary solution as it was past midnight and we were checking out that morning. After check out we sat in the bar for a bit which is decorated in a lovely sea chic sort of way. When I ordered a J20 for myself, the gentleman in charge gave me a J20 for myself and my partner free of charge as an apology for the radiator situation. May not seem like much to some but it was a very nice gesture to me. The bed was unbelievably comfy and for someone who struggles to sleep (ADHD & Insomnia) I was asleep close to midnight both nights of my stay whereas at home I normally fall asleep around 4-6am no matter what time I'm up. The staff were all friendly and happy to accommodate. Allowed us to borrow plates and cutlery both nights when we ordered takeaway as we got back after the restaurant had closed. Our room was a double however when we arrived the beds were positioned as 2 singles. The staff were extremely swift in resolving this issue for us before we'd returned from our 1 hour event and even brought extra shower mats due to my dodgy knee.
I didn't like the fact we had to leave due to us both only having the weekend booked off from work. I'd have loved to have stayed longer and we fully plan on returning in the summer, preferably to the same room as the view was outstanding.

The lift was small and very old. However, most of the hotel looked like it was newly refurbished so it maybe is going to be replaced. It did work ok apart from once when it wouldn't start. I was fine for us as we have no issues with stairs.

Almost nothing apart from the check-in. Nice location. Promised a lot but unfortunately did not deliver.
To be clear, this was a 'budget' room at £37. But all the pre-arrival communication and the 4 star rating (on Booking.com) raised expectations. The shower did not work properly; hot water came out in a trickle. The basin was slow to drain and there was a smell normally associated with blocked sinks. The blind on the roof window would not stay down and shot open. Reported the shower to reception, but made it clear that I was too tired after a day of walking in persistent rain to pursue it just for one night. Had diarrhoea in the night after having a seafood chowder with mussels in shells in the restaurant. Was overcharged for the drinks on the evening meal, which took two goes to get right. The radiator wasn't very hot despite being on full, so drying wet clothes was difficult. I know it was a budget room, but the YHA in Whitby was a similar price and did a lot better. When a hotel is rated 4 stars on Booking.com one does expect the basics to Just Work.

Close to seafront, room was clean except shower
When arriving in the room we noticed how cold is was, then noticed the window handle and safety latch was snapped off so the window could not be closed. I popped to reception to ask for a heater, unfortunately I was told they don't have any. I said the window was broken and was met with the member of staff rolling his eyes and not helping me at all. We had to go to a shop and purchase a heater & blankets ourselves costing over £25. However the morning staff did apologie to us when we were checking out and stated we should of been provided with a new room. There was also no hot water in our room. I understand its a basic room, however I expect heat and hot water as a minimum. The shower had hair in it from the previous tenant. Restaurant is expensive and portions are small. Also very hard to find parking, despite the reservation stating free parking avaliable.

The coffee was dreadful. It ruined a good breakfast. They were trying another blend. My advise would be go back to Taylors of Harrogate
