This guesthouse is in a 16th-century country house on the lower slopes of Sintra’s hills, just 2 miles outside Sintra. It has a swimming pool surrounded by a tree-shaded garden. Quinta de São Thiago features rustic rooms decorated with wooden furniture.
All rooms have a bathroom with bathtub, while some rooms have balconies with views of the grounds. The Quinta Thiago offers a well-stocked library and a music room available for dancing. As its historic function was as a residence for monks, there still is an in-house chapel.
From the guesthouse, steps lead down to the grounds pool surrounded by deck chairs. Guests can bathe in the sun or read a book while enjoying the peaceful garden. There is also a tennis court.

1) The hotel does not disclose that in reality you need a 4x4 to reach it. The long track that takes you down the hill to the hotel is strewn with rocks and very narrow. One of my rental car's tyres burst on the drive in. This resulted in our losing an entire day of sight-seeing.
2) We did not sleep a wink during our stay here due to a plague of mosquitoes. On our first night, we were slaughtered by mosquitoes. No bed nets or window nets on offer. There was a plug-in anti-mosquito device which didn't help at all. In addition, given that there was only one free plug-point in the room, this point was required to re-charge phones etc. To avoid mosquitoes on our second night, we had to sleep with windows shut which was unbearable given the heat and airlessness. We got no sleep in this hotel.
3) Breakfast consisted of ultra-processed meat and cheese, which you would not expect in a hotel within this price-range.
4) There is no front desk and no staff to be found anywhere. When we finally found staff, they were unhelpful and unable to speak any English. The couldn't even print out our boarding tickets for us.
5) This hotel is HOPELESSLY over-priced for what you get. The hotel next door (Palacio de Seteais) is marginally more expensive and offers ten times more on every front.

We had an amazing stay here. The breakfast is super, the croissants are incredible. The beds were so nice it was hard to get up, best sleep in a long time. It’s definitely a very romantic place, next time I’ll come back with my boyfriend!

The Quinta is just the most beautiful, romantic place in an incredible setting with so much beautiful nature. The staff were wonderful and so accommodating and we had everything we needed. The pool was just heavenly. We booked the dining room for dinner on Friday night and the homemade chicken and fish pie was just incredible. Breakfast in the morning was also so delicious and plentiful
There wasn’t much to not like! It was so perfect. There were quite lot of mosquitoes at night but of course that isn’t the hosts fault. We would have appreciated a bit more correspondence before we got there as had a few questions before we arrived that went unanswered, but when we got there everything was to our liking and staff were very attentive

Incredibly picturesque property - spent time exploring the stunning pool/gardens and interior furnishings. Staff were so kind and the breakfast was lovely. Located near the castles. Can UberEats food delivery if needed!
The access road is unsealed and very long and narrow (1km) so it can be a bit of effort to drive in and out of the property especially in the dark, hence access to food at night is a bit limited. However we managed to successfully order UberEats for our first night’s dinner!

It's a bit hard to reach, the road is bad so it's difficult to get out at night. A taxi can be arranged but is a bit pricey (around 40 euros). The breakfast is very basic and not worth the 7.50 euros per pax, a nice espresso in town with a pastry is around 3 euros and of much better quality.

Beautiful place in a beautiful location. The staff truly cared and took care of us.
Communications were terrible. We called, emailed and messaged and never once received a response. With several current guests helping, calling and texting, it took 45 minutes to find someone to check us in. We received an errant email thanking us for our stay the day before we were to check out. We responded via Booking.com, called and texted; never to receive a response and had to worry all day if we would have a room upon our return.

Its a beautiful location if you enjoy sunbathing, pool, have a car and are only on vacation (not for working in between)
WiFi, available (not properly) inside (not in all common area), you have to be in a closed / dark sitting area if u need to do some work.
Difficult to get an Uber to or from there to town ... they keep cancelling you.
No food available around nor in the Hotel... Uber eats / Glovo Dont go up there unless its a meningful delivery.
The bathroom had a terrible smell the 1st night, maybe bcause of the rain they said... But although not in the same intensity, it kept coming back later and sadly, you cant leave the windows opened bcause of the insects.

Lovely structure with a relaxing and beautiful view! From my room I could see the swimming pool ( the water temperature was perfect) and the woods.
There were just other 4 guests and the owner was friendly and gave us a few tips on where to eat. Breakfast can be included for 7.5€ for each guest.
The library made me think about "Beauty and the beast movie", love it! The garden is huge and really peaceful
Parking spot available just next to the structure, quinta da ragleira and the Palace of Montserrat are close-by the Quinta.
The road to get there is not made for every car.
Swimming pool could have been a little bit more cleaner.

This is a wonderful house, built around the year 1530!!! It is in the middle of an amazing green area, the house is full of antiques and there´s an exceptional garden and view. The breakfast was great and I did request lunch for the second day, and it was very good. You can take walks in the garden and around the swimming pool.
The staff was very kind and I had a great overall stay. But it should be said that it is far from the town, and since there are no services (bar or restaurant) it is better to have a car, so you can go back to town for dinner or lunch. You can order food in the hotel, but you need to order in advance, which is hard to plan sometimes. I did not have a car and got around fine, but I did a lot of walking. I would definetely stay there again, but it is important to keep in mind the distance and lack of public transport to the hotel entrance.

Beautiful old home on the northern hills of the Sintra park. Huge living area with carpets and period furniture, massive pool. Very relaxing! I loved sitting and staring at the fire for a whole evening by myself. The staff are lovely, very chilled. The breakfast was plentiful, and the living room where they served it was decorated in period style.
It's a bit dated, so expect the rooms to be old school - I had to ask for the water to be switched on as it was freezing but this was in February, and I was the only guest. They kindly let me use another room to have hot water.

the hotel is very cozy and brings a nice atmosphere of ancient times which only improves the whole experience of visiting such a place like Sinatra. the garden is amazing and I am happy we found time to take some time from relaxing next to the pool
I am dissatisfied about the level of the service - 3 days there was no warm water in the room and nobody cared to answer my calls or messages !!!! The service don’t speak any English and even if they called someone it didnt work. The room was very humid and stinky because of that ( as the whole luggage after the stay). I wouldn’t be surprised if there is painted mold… I am pregnant and I sincerely wish I am not right as it can have very bad side effects. Not recommended to arrive without a car or a car that you care for, as the driveway is steep and in bad condition

Everything was fantastic for us but I could see some people not liking the location due to it not being dead center in the tourist area. For us that is exactly what we were looking for and being away from the crowds.
It was very quiet and relaxing, surrounded by scenic views that pictures don’t do justice for.
We would drive up from the property to main road and find parking(free) and then walk 10-15 mins right to the main area of shops and restaurants, if you decided to drive rather then walk, it would be about 25mins.

Huge pool all to ourselves, a beautiful and interesting property with a ton to look at and amazing garden.
I was shocked at how quiet it was but the property is very large and we were there in May.

The garden is well-kept, stunningly beautiful. The pool is large, clean with clean water. Nature views are great, silence all around. Wonderful location.
The house is maintained to a high standard, however, a repair of the house was made some time ago. The house has an antique-type of smell. The furniture is antique, but some of it has worn out and lost its functionality.

The staff is very friendly and the experience is a great contrast to the usual big hotel business.
Location is a bit isolated if you have no car .

If you are not an experienced driver, I rather suggest taking a taxi. Grab some snacks with you, there are no restaurants or supermarkets on an approachable distance.

It is a stunning historical building and grounds. A hidden germ. If you are driving be careful on the narrow gravel road to the property.
The building used to be a monastery. How amazing is that? I looked at our rooms and was first suspicious whether any of us with get a good night sleep and we slept like dead.

Property was very difficult to find n very frustrating locating it especially after a long travel day. And then if u want to go anywhere it’s all one way roads so a lot of backtracking. The very rough road to property was really not good for rental cars. The poor signage of property did not help Was interesting villa but I would not recommend No restaurants or shops etc. felt very isolated

Gorgeous old family home full of character, ornaments and photos. Lovely views and garden. Fantastic breakfast in real old dining room. Delicious pastel del nata.
Would be good to take whole property, in summer with own chef. Lots of private seating areas. Fabulous courtyard with tank. Pool if warm.
Access road almost lethal, washed away at sides, precipitous and horrible in hire car. Property looked closed and uninviting, and was locked despite my long held booking and email with indication of arrival. Maid put head out of window then let us in, spoke no English, pointed to signs. She enjoyed the beautiful library for tv, but it had “No Entry” sign to guests. It was such a pity as it felt unloved and creepy and we did not want to stay or face the drive in and out of Sintra. No bar or food on site. Complete absence of staff .

Fantastic villa with superb pool and views. Wonderful breakfast. You can get dinner through Uber eats.
Difficult to get too: apple maps gave a wrong location. We made 3 circles and 2 hours on Sintra mountain roads searching for the place. Finally switch to Google maps and asked a local policeman for directions - this work. The final stretch of the road to Quinta was a steep dirt road - hold your breath.

We got married at this beautiful historic Quinta and it really was a dream wedding. The staff who works here are exceptional, the owner is amazing. As we rented the entire b&b for four nights, we had asked if they could make dinner for over 25 guests for two nights, this was no problem. We were also able to use an older kitchen to keep drinks and food we could have for lunch. Breakfast is included!
The pool was well used by everyone, the outdoor space is just unbelievable. The rooms are old, but clean - and they have everything you need. The temperature inside was also cool and nice even in the middle of summer.
Highly recommend to stay at this beautiful Quinta!

Beds were old & rickety. No shower head so had to use hand-held shower. Road to get to the Quinta was narrow & rocky but Uber drivers were able to navigate it.

Really Beautiful Quinta a bit outside of Sintra. You don't have to go Sintra every time if you wanna access the beaches, which can be crucial especially in high season. Also you could start a hike directly throfrom the house. Run by a very kind and interesting Family. If you have a chance to get a tour, take it. The pool is wonderful. Obrigado, Dona senhora! :)

Everything exceeded our expectations - the warm welcome, exquisite rooms and views, impeccable housekeeping, delicious and bountiful breakfast, and spectacular gardens and library. The family history and collections of beautiful objects and furnishings, along with the wonderful conversation with Teresa by the fire are what made this place truly stand out. Teresa greeted us and she was amazing. We had a tour of the property and saw all of the highlights. She was so nice. We got lost finding the home but Teresa was available by phone to “talk us in”. We made it.

Our GPS gave us issues. Just go to Monserrate and turn at the totem pole with the eagle at the top.
The entry road is challenging but a great adventure and worth it.

For the tree people (couple + student son) we got very fancy apartment with 2 bedrooms. The villa and the territory are huge and remind you on medieval times. The villa owner was extremely friendly. We enjoyed the swimming pool amid very hot afternoon days after returning from trips. Breakfast was good and rich and was served in old family style dining room.
Beds/mattresses were some hard, to my opinion.
Villa is located approximately 2 miles away from the main road and you should use an unpaved, narrow, I would say challenging, especially in darkness, road to get to your place. Therefore, to get to Sinta and back we preferred to take Uber rather than using our car.

The view was great, including the view from our small balcony. The grounds were nice too. Breakfast was home-cooked with a variety of treats over our 4-day stay.
It smelled very musty in some places. We couldn't go in the library because the smell was too strong of dusty books. The downstairs lounge had furniture from decades ago and was not inviting. Our bathroom toilet smelled of bad drains or something like that. Keeping all windows open was a must. Getting into the shower was awkward because it is kind of behind the actual toilet.
Access was very hard on two levels. First, Sintra's one-way system makes it hard to get to most places - one wrong move and you are stuck on a 30 minute loop because you can't turn. Secondly, the long, dirt track that takes you down to the hotel requires skill and concentration, and abdominal muscles for the bumps. When you arrive, the sign is missing so you are not sure if you've found the place. The attitude to fixing and repairing is poor.
